How Much Space in Your Home is Wasted?

The average size of houses in the US has steadily increased over the past several decades—more than 1,000 square feet since the 1970s (a 60% increase). At the same time as our houses have gotten larger, the average American family has gotten smaller—from 3.01 persons per household to 2.54. This means more space for fewer people. But is this space actually necessary?

A study conducted by The Center on Everyday Lives of Families at UCLA shows that a lot of the space in our homes is not being put to use. This means wasted space and wasted money. The study observed the dwelling habits of American families and put together a heat map of where they do and don’t spend time in their homes. The results might surprise you!
